Angra do Heroísmo

Angra do Heroísmo (äng`grə d ərēzh`m), town (1991 pop. 11,672), capital of Angra do Heroísmo dist., Portugal, in the Azores, on Terceira island. It is a port and was until 1832 capital of the Azores. There is an old castle in the town.

But as we all know, improvements were made and they decided to use the town of Angra do Heroismo as the new capital, probably because it was well protected by the bay ( angro ) and the Brasil Mountain standing strong against the ocean.
