Anikst, Aleksandr Abramovich
Born July 16,1910, in Zurich. Soviet Russian literary and theater critic. Member of the CPSU since 1942. Doctor of Art Studies (1963). Anikst’s works, which were first published in 1930, are devoted to the history of English and American literature and to aesthetics. In the area of dramatic history, he has concentrated on W. Shakespeare, writing works that illustrate the humanism and profundity of the English playwright’s artistic images: The Works of Shakespeare, 1963; Shakespeare, 1964; and Theater in the Era of Shakespeare, 1965.
