To create an animal model of preeclampsia, Osol and his colleagues injected pregnant rats with a drug that inhibits blood vessels from releasing nitric oxide, a molecule that normally relaxes vessels so that they can expand. Scientists at UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center have developed the world's first animal model for a common form of lymphoma, a discovery that may lead to a better understanding of the genetic mutations that cause these types of cancers. Fred Lublin, director of the Corinne Goldsmith Dickinson Center for MS at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, was one of the first to test Novantrone in an animal model of MS. |
