(born June 24, 1937, Mussoorie, India) Indian novelist and author of children's books. Considered India's premier imagist writer, she excels in evoking character and mood through visual images. Her works include Fire on the Mountain (1977), Clear Light of Day (1980), Baumgartner's Bombay (1988), Journey to Ithaca (1995), and the story collection Diamond Dust (2000).
