anodizing |
Also found in: Wikipedia, Hutchinson | 0.01 sec. |
anodizingMethod of coating metal for corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, thermal control, abrasion resistance, sealing, improving paint adhesion, and decorative finishing. Anodizing consists of electrically depositing an oxide film from aqueous solution onto the surface of a metal, often aluminum, which serves as the anode in an electrolytic cell. In the most common type of anodizing, which uses a 15% sulfuric acid bath, dyes can be introduced into the oxidation process to achieve a coloured surface. Aluminum thus anodized and coloured is used widely in giftware, home appliances, and architectural decoration. How to thank TFD for its existence? | OptiLED's Designer Dimmable features a polycarbonate face and base, an anodized aluminium housing, and a standard four-degree diffuser. Now, since all the original fears in mounting this exhibition proved groundless, Germany is sponsoring a 12-year global tour with a travelling salesman's suitcase of transportable, silk-screened images on anodized aluminium panels, presenting architecture as cultural treasure, marketing event, and exportable product. Comprising a table with matching benches, both items comprise an anodized aluminium base with solid lroko slats, and seek to embody simplicity, timelessness and warmth. |
