In east-central MN, north of Minneapolis; established May 23, 1857 (prior to statehood) from Hennepin County; annexed Manomin County in 1869. Name Origin: For the town of the same name; from Siouan 'the other side' or 'both sides'; the town is on both sides of the Rum River.

Area (sq mi): 446.26 (land 423.61; water 22.65). Pop per sq mi: 764.80.
Pop 2005: 323,996. State rank: 4. Pop change: 2000-20005 8.70%; 1990-2000 22.30%. Pop 2000: 298,084 (White 92.80%; Black or African American 1.60%; Hispanic or Latino 1.70%; Asian 1.70%; Other 3.00%). Foreign born: 3.60%. Median age: 33.70.
Income 2000: per capita $23,297; median household $57,754; Pop below poverty level: 4.20%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $30,770-$32,620.
Unemployment 2004: 4.50%. Change from 2000: 1.20%. Median travel time to work: 27.30 minutes. Working outside county of residence: 59.00%.

    David Diaz of Anoka County, Minnesota, filed a $75,000 civil suit against Manson in a Minneapolis federal court.
    The subject of this property tax dispute was a manufacturing plant site in Anoka County, Minnesota, owned by Dealers Manufacturing, Inc.
