Antequera (äntākā`rä), city (1990 pop. 41,863), Málaga prov., S Spain, in Andalusia. At the foot of the Sierra de los Torcales, it is the center of a fertile agricultural region. The Cueva de Menga, a large prehistoric burial chamber, possibly Celtic, was discovered in the vicinity in 1842. A large part of the city's 14th-century Moorish quarter is preserved.
