Sax, Adolphe
(real name Antoine Joseph Sax). Born Nov. 6, 1814, in Dinant, Belgium; died Feb. 4, 1894, in Paris. Belgian inventor of wind instruments. Sax worked in Brussels and, beginning in 1836, in Paris. He perfected a number of wind instruments and invented the saxophone and the saxhorn family of wind instruments (patents in 1845, Paris). Want to thank TFD for its existence?
