Kochinian, Anton Ervandovich 

Born Oct. 12 (25), 1913, in the village of Vaagni, Gugark Raion, Armenian SSR. Soviet government and party leader. Member of the CPSU since 1938. Son of a peasant.

Kochinian graduated from the Higher Communist Agricultural School in Yerevan in 1935, the Higher School of Party Organizers under the Central Committee (CC) of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolshevik) in 1946 and the Higher Party School under the CC of the CPSU in 1959. From 1935 to 1937 he worked on a raion newspaper. In 1937 he went into Komsomol work. In 1939 he became first secretary of the CC of the Lenin Young Communist League of Armenia. From 1941 to 1943 he was first secretary of the Kirov raion committee (Yerevan) and in 1943–44, of the Kotaik raion committee of the Communist Party of Armenia (Bolshevik). From 1946 to 1952 he was a secretary of the CC of the CPA (B). In 1952 he was first secretary of the Yerevan district committee of the CPA (B). In November 1952 he became chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR. From 1966 to 1974 he was first secretary of the CC of the CPA.

Kochinian was a delegate to the Nineteenth through Twenty-fourth Congresses of the CPSU; at the Twenty-second Congress he was elected a candidate member of the CC of the CPSU, and at the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses, a member of the CC of the CPSU. He was a deputy to the third through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been on pension since 1974. He has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals. [13–888–2; updated]
