Antonii-Siia Monastery
founded in 1520 by the monk Antonii (1479–1556), who was of peasant origin. It is located near the Siia River, a tributary of the Northern Dvina (in modern Kholmogory Raion, Arkhangel’sk Ob-last). The monastery had its own large feudal economy and played a prominent role in the economic exploitation of the Pomor’e. In the 1570’s there were peasant disturbances on the monastery’s estate. In 1764 the monastery had over 3,300 peasants. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
