Antonii-Siia Monastery

    0.01 sec.
Antonii-Siia Monastery

founded in 1520 by the monk Antonii (1479–1556), who was of peasant origin. It is located near the Siia River, a tributary of the Northern Dvina (in modern Kholmogory Raion, Arkhangel’sk Ob-last). The monastery had its own large feudal economy and played a prominent role in the economic exploitation of the Pomor’e. In the 1570’s there were peasant disturbances on the monastery’s estate. In 1764 the monastery had over 3,300 peasants.
