Antonov, Aleksei Konstantinovich 

Born May 27 (June 8), 1912, in Grodno. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU since 1940.

Antonov was born into the family of a teacher. Graduated from the Kalinin Leningrad Polytechnical Institute in 1935, he was an engineer, laboratory chief, assistant chief designer, shop chief, production chief, and chief engineer at plants of the aviation industry from 1937 to 1957. From 1957 to 1959 he held high posts in the Leningrad Council of the National Economy. From 1959 to 1961 he was vice-chairman and from 1961 to 1965 chairman of the Leningrad Council of the National Economy. He has been Minister of the Electrical Engineering Industry of the USSR since September 1965. He was elected a candidate member of the CPSU Central Committee at the Twenty-second (1961) and Twenty-third (1966) Congresses of the CPSU and was deputy to the sixth and seventh convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Recipient of the USSR State Prize (1950), he has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, other orders, and also medals.
