Augustinčić, Antun 

Born May 4, 1900, in Klanjec, Croatia. Croatian sculptor.

Augustinčić studied with I. Meštrović at the Academy of Arts in Zagreb (1922–24) and at the School of Fine Arts and the School of Decorative Arts in Paris (1924–26). He was a professor at the Academy of Arts in Zagreb. He participated in the liberation movement between 1941 and 1945. His massive works are heroic in spirit and include the monument to P. Kocic in Banja Luka, 1929, the memorial to the Soviet Army in the village of Batina Skela, 1945–47, and Mir (Peace) outside the UN building in New York, 1952–55. He has also done portraits and female statues and torsos. Augustinčić’s works are characterized by realistic expressiveness, dynamism, and picturesque forms.
