Apeldoorn (ä`pəldōrn), city (1994 pop. 149,449), Gelderland prov., central Netherlands. It has a variety of manufactures, including paper. The city is a transportation center and attracts many tourists. Nearby is Het Loo, a royal palace and the residence of former Queen Wilhelmina from the time of her abdication in 1948 until her death in 1962. Also in the Apeldoorn area is Hoge Veluwe National Park. Apeldoorn a town in the Netherlands, in central Gelderland province: nearby is the summer residence of the Dutch royal family.
