(ay -pŭs) (Bird of Paradise) A small inconspicuous constellation in the southern hemisphere near Crux, the brightest stars being just above 4th magnitude. It contains the faint and slightly irregular globular cluster NGC 6101, visible as a misty patch through a small telescope. Abbrev.: Aps; genitive form: Apodis; approx. position: RA 16h, dec –75°; area: 206 sq deg.
