Aktau 

an urban-type settlement in Tel’man Raion, Karaganda Oblast, Kazakh SSR. It is on the Murza railroad station, 70 km north of Karaganda. Population, 16,000 (1968). Aktau’s industry centers on the production of building materials: a cement factory, asbestos-cement products, and others. There is also an industrial technicum.


Aktau 

until 1964 the name of the present-day city of Shevchenko, in Gur’ev Oblast, Kazakh SSR.
