As one informant told this writer in 2003, the journeys of the two sacred images (the Maha Muni from the kingdom of Arakan over the Arakan Yoma to Amarapura, Bodawpaya's capital; and the White Stone Buddha down the Irrawaddy River from the Mandalay area to Insein Township, Rangoon) were similar in that they both were undertaken to enhance the prestige and legitimacy of the state. |
