Araqel of Tabriz 

Born 1595; died 1669. Armenian historian; author of Book of Histories, which covers the 1602–62 period and contains valuable materials on the history of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the 17th century, in particular on the resettlement of Armenians by Shah Abbas in Iran.

Araqel of Tabriz traveled a great deal and searched for participants in and witnesses to events; he brought greater precision to the chronology of many events by using manuscripts of individual persons which contained memoirs on different events, small chronicles, and other sources. His works were first published in the Armenian language in Amsterdam in 1669.
