Ardon (är`dən), in the Bible, Caleb's third son.
Ardon 

a city (up to 1964, a village), center of Ardon Raion, Severnaia Osetiia ASSR. Located on a branch of the Ardon River. Site of a railroad station on the Darg-Kokh-Alagir branch of the Prokhladnaia-Groznyi line. A highway junction. Population, 11,300 (1968). The city has a mechanical repair shop, an asphalt and reinforced-concrete plant, a cannery, a butter and cheese plant, and a hemp factory.


Ardon 

a river in the Northern Caucasus, in the Severnaia Osetiia ASSR; left tributary of the Terek River. Length, 102 km; area of basin, 2,700 sq km. It rises from glaciers in the Greater Caucasus. It emerges onto the Severnaia Osetiia foothill plain near the city of Alagir. It is used for irrigation. The Osetian Military Road passes through the valley of the Ardon. The Sadon lead and zinc mine is located in the Ardon basin.
