Argiropulo, Perikl Emmanuilovich
Born July 12(24), 1839;died Dec. 18(30), 1862. Russian revolutionary, a Greek by nationality. Student at the law faculty of Moscow University. In 1859 he joined the circle called the Library of Kazan Students. In 1860–61, with P. G. Zaichnevskii, he set up a student circle that translated, printed, and disseminated forbidden books (works of L. Feuerbach, A. I. Herzen, N. P. Ogarev, and others), and ran Sunday schools (intelligentsia-run schools for the instruction of the laboring classes). He was arrested on June 22, 1861, and died in a prison hospital before the verdict was pronounced. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
