Ariel

(ā`rēĕl), in the Bible, aide of Ezra. In two other passages AV calls them "lionlike men" ("two ariels of Moab" in RV). Nothing is known of them. Ariel is also used as a symbolic name of Jerusalem.

Ariel

(air -ee-ĕl) A satellite of Uranus, discovered in 1851 by William Lasell. Extensively imaged by Voyager 2 in 1986, Ariel has many craters and broad branching smooth-floored valleys such as Korrican Chasma and Kewpie Chasma. Its surface carries the scars of numerous impacts dating back to a time when the Solar System was still being formed. See Uranus' satellites; Table 2, backmatter.
