EchoStar Corp (Nasdaq:SATS), a provider of satellite operations and video delivery solutions, and Arianespace SA
, a launcher of satellites, announced on Monday an agreement to launch multiple new satellites over a multi-year period from Europe's spaceport in French Guiana.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) said on March 21 it was lending euro 121 million to Arianespace SA
for part-financing a project comprising the construction of a new launch pad at the French Guiana Space Centre (GSC) for the launch of Soyuz ST rockets, adaptation of Soyuz ST to the specific conditions of GSC and development of an improved version of that type of space launch vehicle.
The chief of Arianespace SA
said Thursday he hopes Japan's H-2A rocket can be used as a backup vehicle in Europe's Galileo global-positioning satellite deployment project, which is apparently opposed by the United States.
