Arias Montanus, Benedictus (bĕnədĭk`təs ā`rēəs mŏntā`nəs), or Benito Arias Montano (bānē`tō ä`ryäs mōntä`nō), 1527–98, Spanish Benedictine monk, editor of the Antwerp Polyglot Bible Polyglot Bible , Bible in which different texts, often in different languages, are laid out in parallel columns. Polyglot Bibles serve as tools for textual criticism. Origen's Hexapla was the most famous ancient example.
