Armstrong, Harry George (1899–1983) physician, airman; born in DeSmet, S.D. After serving a U.S. Marine Corps enlistment, he attended college and medical school, obtained a medical degree, and practiced industrial medicine in Minneapolis, Minn., for several years. Commissioned in the Medical Reserve Corps in 1929, he opted to specialize in the new field of aviation medicine. He was air surgeon, U.S. 8th Air Force, in England during World War II and became surgeon general of the U.S. Air Force in 1949. How to thank TFD for its existence?
