In north-central TX panhandle, southeast of Amarillo; organized Aug 21, 1876 from Bexar County. Name Origin: For the Armstrong family, early settlers.

In central portion of western PA, northeast of Pittsburgh; organized Mar 12, 1800 from Allegheny, Lycoming, and Westmoreland counties. Name Origin: For John Armstrong (1758-1843), officer in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, U.S. senator from NY (1800-02; 1803-04), and U.S. secretary of war (1813-14).
