Arosev, Aleksandr Iakovlevich 

Born May 25, 1890, in Kazan; died Feb. 10, 1938. Soviet Party and state figure; writer. Member of the Communist Party from 1907. Born into a bourgeois family.

Arosev engaged in revolutionary work in Kazan, St. Petersburg, and Moscow and suffered arrests and exiles. After emigrating to France, he studied and worked in Bolshevik organizations abroad. After the February Revolution of 1917 he became chairman of the Tver’ soviet. He was a member of the All-Russian Bureau of the Military Organizations of the RSDLP (Bolshevik) from June 1917. In October 1917 he was a member of the Moscow Military Revolutionary Committee and commanded the troops of the Moscow military district. In 1918 he was commissar of the Air Force Central Administration. He served as chairman of the Supreme Revolutionary Tribunal of the Ukraine in 1920. From 1924 to 1933 he was involved in diplomatic work in France and was plenipotentiary in Lithuania and Czechoslovakia. From 1934 he was chairman of the All-Union Society for Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries.

Arosev first emerged as a writer in 1916. In his works he depicted the revolutionary underground under tsarism and the selfless activity of Bolsheviks under the conditions of the Civil War.
