Born 1790; died 1866. Armenian poet and translator; representative of classicism.

In his narrative poem Gaik the Hero, Bagratuni exalted the heroic past of ancient Armenia. He left works on Armenian regional studies and translations from the literature of antiquity. He edited the works of the Armenian historians Khorenatsi, Egishe, Eznik, and Agatangekhos. Bagratuni also translated the Iliad in verse from the original.
