Zverev, Arsenii Grigor’evich
Born Feb. 18 (Mar. 2), 1900, in the village of Tikhomirovo, in what is now Klin Raion, Moscow Oblast. Soviet state and party figure. Doctor of economic sciences (1959). Member of the CPSU since 1919. The son of a worker, Zverev graduated from the Moscow Finance Institute in 1933. In 1913 he became a textile worker. He served in the Red Army from 1919 to 1922 and took part in the Civil War. Zverev engaged in financial, soviet, and party work from 1922 to 1937, when he became deputy people’s commissar of finance of the USSR. In the period 1938 to 1960 he served as people’s commissar of finance and then as minister of finance. He became a professor at the All-Union Correspondence Finance Institute in 1961. A member of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1952 to 1961, Zverev was a deputy to the first, second, fourth, and fifth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
