Artaniia
(also Arsaniia, Arta), with Kuiaviia and Slaviia, one of the three centers of ancient Rus’. Artanitia existed in the ninth century; it was mentioned by Arab and Persian geographers (al-Balkhi, al-Istakhri, ibn-Haukal, and others). Some researchers identify Artaniia with the territory of the Antes; others, with Tmutarakan’; and a third group, with the city of Riazan’. REFERENCEMongait, A.
