artesian basin [är′tē·zhən ′bās·ən]
(hydrology) A geologic structural feature or combination of such features in which water is confined under artesian pressure. Artesian Basin a basin of subterranean waters within the limits of one or several geological structures that enclose layers containing water under pressure. The largest artesian basins in the USSR are the West Siberian, Moscow, Baltic, Dnieper-Donets, and Caspian; abroad, the Australian artesian basin is among the largest.
