Assa

Assa 

(known as the Ters in its upper course), a river in Dzhambul Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Length, 253 km; basin area, 9,210 sq km. The Assa rises in the Karatau Range and ends in the sands of Muiunkum west of the Talas River. It is fed by snow, glaciers, and rain. At its exit from the mountains the river’s average discharge is approximately 12 cu m per sec. The Assa is used for irrigation.
