Assay Duty

a fee that is levied by governmental bodies supervising assaying and used for the testing, analysis, and marking of jewelry and domestic articles made of precious metals. In the USSR, a fee is charged for assay work at a rate set by the Ministry of Finances of the USSR. The amount of the fee depends on the weight of the article.
