Assiniboine RiverRiver, southern Canada. Rising in Saskatchewan, it flows southeast across Manitoba into the Red River of the North at Winnipeg. It is about 665 mi (1,070 km) long and has two tributaries, the Qu'Appelle and the Souris. Explored by Pierre La Verendrye in 1736, it later served as a route to the plains by colonists from Red River Settlement. |

| Churches were central to the lives of settlers in this remote fur trade community on the banks of the Red and Assiniboine rivers. The building is located in central Winnipeg, close to the north bank of the Assiniboine River and rests on 14 m of glacial Lake Agassiz clays over till and limestone bedrock. Don and Ken Armitage also crop 1350 acres and raise 135 head of beef cattle in the Assiniboine River valley, about 60 miles north west of Brandon, MB. |
