Association for Symbolic Logic

the largest American organization of modern logicians. It is actually an international organization. Established in 1936 on the initiative of C. Ducasse (the association’s first president), A. Church, H. Curry, C. Lewis, and others, its purpose is to promote research in symbolic (formal and mathematical) logic and related fields. Scientists or scientific institutions coming from any country in the world and interested in symbolic logic can be members of the Association for Symbolic Logic. At the beginning of 1969 there were 48 institutional members and 1,568 individual members (406 foreigners, including representatives of the USSR). The official organ of the association is the Journal of Symbolic Logic, which has been published quarterly since 1936.
