Astrophysics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Tadzhik Soviet Socialist Republic

a scientific research institute in Dushanbe.

The institute was founded in 1958 as an extension of the Stalinabad Astronomical Observatory, which had been founded in 1932. It conducts research on meteors, comets, variable stars, and stellar astronomy. The institute includes the Gissarskaia Observatory (constructed between 1963 and 1968), where all observations are carried out. The basic instruments are a 70-cm reflector, a 40-cm astrograph (F = 2 m), photographic meteor patrols with 10-cm cameras (24 pieces) and 75-cm cameras (16 pieces), a radar meteor patrol, and an ionospheric station. The institute has published the Biulleten’ since 1951 and the journal Komety i meteory since 1957.
