Atbasar
a city in Tselinograd Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Located on the Zhabai River (tributary of the Ishim). Railroad junction. Population, 43,000 (1968). Atbasar is a center for the processing of agricultural produce, with a meat combine, dairy plant, and other enterprises. There is also a machine repair plant and a building materials plant. The city has a technicum for mechanized agriculture and a medical school. Atbasar was founded in 1846 as a stanitsa (large cossack village). Want to thank TFD for its existence?
