Atchafalaya River

Atchafalaya River

River, southern Louisiana, U.S. A distributary of the Red and Mississippi rivers, it branches southwest from the Red River in east-central Louisiana and flows south about 140 mi (225 km) to Atchafalaya Bay. Its name is Choctaw for “Long River.”
