Name Origin: For the Auglaize River, which traverses it; from French 'at the stream' or 'at the lick,' with possible reference to a salt lick; or from an Indian word meaning 'fallen timbers.' Area (sq mi): 401.72 (land 401.25; water 0.47). Pop per sq mi: 117.70. Pop 2005: 47,242. State rank: 50. Pop change: 2000-20005 1.40%; 1990-2000 4.50%. Pop 2000: 46,611 (White 97.70%; Black or African American 0.20%; Hispanic or Latino 0.70%; Asian 0.40%; Other 1.20%). Foreign born: 1.10%. Median age: 36.50.
