Augustów Canal
in northeastern Poland; connects the Vistula and Neman rivers, linking the Biebrza, Netta, and Czarna Hancza rivers. Built between 1824 and 1839 and named for the city of Augustów, the canal is more than 100 km long. It is important for floating timber and is also a tourist attraction.
