Practical applications include database-query systems, information retrieval systems, and speaker identification and verification systems, as in telebanking. Speech recognition has promising applications in robotics, particularly development of robots that can “hear.” See also pattern recognition. speech recognitionSame as voice recognition. speech recognition [′spēch ‚rek·ig′nish·ən] (engineering acoustics) The process of analyzing an acoustic speech signal to identify the linguistic message that was intended, so that a machine can correctly respond to spoken commands.
