Avariar, Battle of (451)

took place May 26 south of present-day Maku between the Sassinidian army and the rebelling Armenians, led by Vardan Mamikonian. Both sides suffered heavy losses, and the victory of Iran, whose army was three times the size of the Armenian one, was not decisive.
