Bethany, in the Bible

Bethany (bĕth`ənē).

1 Village, at the southeastern foot of the Mount of Olives, the modern El Aziriye, 2 mi (3.2 km) E of Jerusalem. In the Gospels, it is the home of Lazarus 1 Brother of Mary and Martha of Bethany who, after four days in the tomb, was brought back to life by Jesus.

Bethany, city (1990 pop. 20,075), Oklahoma co., central Okla.; inc. 1910. Its manufactures include small airplanes and tires. Bethany was settled in 1906 by members of the Nazarene church, and Southern Nazarene College is there.
