BBSRAM

Also found in: Acronyms 0.01 sec.
BBSRAM
(Battery Backed SRAM) SRAM memory that is backed up with a lithium battery in the event of power failure. "Discrete BBSRAM" places SRAM chips on a small printed circuit board (PCB) along with the battery and switchover circuit. The PCB is typically around 60 square inches. "BBSRAM modules" encapsulate the SRAM, battery and circuitry into chip packages that are smaller than the discrete BBSRAM boards. See nvSRAM and solid state drive.

BBSRAM Memory Packages BBSRAM provides battery-backed, high-speed SRAM memory. Although somewhat slower than BBSRAM, Ramtron's non-volatile F-RAM memory eliminates the battery and related circuitry in a considerably smaller footprint. FRAM is superior to BBSRAM in that there is no need for an on-board or external battery to back up data and is inherently highly reliable due to its monolithic form factor.
Likewise, integrating a real-time clock in our nvSRAMs enables our portfolio to cover applications traditionally served by BBSRAMs.
Simtek Corporation (NASDAQ:SMTK), the inventor, pioneer, and world's leading supplier of nonvolatile static random access memory (nvSRAM) integrated circuits, today announced that it has been named the largest and fastest growing vendor in the Battery-Backed SRAM "BBSRAM" category of Web-Feet Research's "2006 Non-Volatile Memory Market Shares by Vendor" April 2007 report, based on the company's 2006 BBSRAM revenue of $28 million.
