BBSRAM

(Battery Backed SRAM) SRAM memory that is backed up with a lithium battery in the event of power failure. "Discrete BBSRAM" places SRAM chips on a small printed circuit board (PCB) along with the battery and switchover circuit. The PCB is typically around 60 square inches. "BBSRAM modules" encapsulate the SRAM, battery and circuitry into chip packages that are smaller than the discrete BBSRAM boards. See nvSRAM and solid state drive.

BBSRAM Memory Packages

BBSRAM provides battery-backed, high-speed SRAM memory. Although somewhat slower than BBSRAM, Ramtron's non-volatile F-RAM memory eliminates the battery and related circuitry in a considerably smaller footprint. (Image courtesy of Ramtron International Corporation, www.ramtron.com)

In addition to BBSRAM and other traditional non-volatile memory tasks, nvSRAM is rapidly migrating into many other market segments and Simtek expects even broader applications as the technology quickly scales to smaller geometries and delivers progressively better access times, density and system performance.
The product's superior write features provide new system capability for developers that can't employ BBSRAM.
Likewise, integrating a real-time clock in our nvSRAMs enables our portfolio to cover applications traditionally served by BBSRAMs.
