BCS(1) (The British Computer Society, Swindon, Wiltshire, England, www.bcs.org) The chartered body for information technology professionals in the U.K., founded in 1957. It sets standards, conducts exams, advises Parliament and disseminates awards for excellence in computing. The BCS was a founding member of the Council for European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS). The BCS is also an Engineering Institution, fully licensed by the Engineering Council to nominate Chartered and Incorporated Engineers and to accredit university courses and training schemes.
