BXXP (Blocks EXtensible EXchange Protocol) An IETF protocol designed to provide an alternate transport to HTTP for the Internet. HTTP has been severely strained by all the various media types it has been forced to carry. BXXP enables simultaneous transmissions to take place such as chatting and file transfer within the same application, which TCP/IP inherently supports (you use this capability when you run two or more Web applications at the same time).BXXP also provides the error checking and basic functions necessary in a communications protocol. Writing protocols that support multiple channels is tedious, and having this capability built into a common layer is expected to speed up the development of future Web-based protocols. BXXP was conceived by Marshall Rose, who helped develop the POP3, SNMP and SMTP protocols so widely used on the Internet. How to thank TFD for its existence?
