Bache, Richard, 1737–1811, American merchant, b. Yorkshire, England. He came to New York City in 1765 to join an older brother in the mercantile business. Bache soon moved to Philadelphia in the interest of the firm, which had built up a large West Indian trade. In 1767 he married Sarah, daughter of Benjamin Franklin 2)). Bache, Richard (1737–1811) merchant; born in Settle, Yorkshire, England (son-in-law of Benjamin Franklin). Emigrating to New York City in 1765, he settled in Philadelphia and married Sarah Franklin in 1767. During the Revolution he was on the Board of War and succeeded his father-in-law as postmaster general (1776–82).
