Backbone State Park

Location: 4 miles southwest of Strawberry Point, off IA 410.
Facilities: 125 campsites (49 with electrical hookups; @di), year-round (é) and seasonal rental cabins, picnic areas, open picnic shelters, stone lodge, hiking and multi-use trails (21 miles), boat ramp, boat rentals, swimming beach, food concession, Civilian Conservation Corps museum, playground.
Activities: Camping, swimming, lake and stream fishing, boating (electric motors only), hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hunting (designated areas).
Special Features: Iowa's first state park, Backbone was named for its narrow and steep ridge of bedrock carved by a loop of the Maquoketa River. The park is heavily wooded and provides a refuge for deer, raccoon, fox, turkeys, ruffed grouse, and songbirds.

Backbone State Park is one of the first state parks made in the USA and it has narrow steep edges carved by the water of the Maquoketa River.
On Sunday the group will return to Dubuque via Backbone State Park.
