The weight and length of the baculum, a bone that supports a bear's penis, also decreased significantly with increasing concentrations of some of the compounds. Recent findings of abnormal baculum among mink and river otters on the lower Columbia River (98) and unusual external genitalia and pseudohermaphroditism among black and polar bears (99,100) suggest that gonadal development in wild mammals may currently be affected by xenobiotics. |
