Badian, Ernst (1925– ) ancient historian; born in Vienna, Austria. Educated in New Zealand and England, he came to the United States in 1968 where he taught first at Buffalo State University (1969–71), then at Harvard (1971). Founder of the American Journal of Ancient History (1976), he gave the University of California Sather lectures in 1976.
