Baev, Aleksandr Aleksandrovich 

Born Dec. 28, 1903 (Jan. 10, 1904), in Chita. Soviet biochemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968), full member of the Academy since 1970. Student of V. A. Engel’gardt. Member of the CPSU since 1964. Graduated from the medical department of the University of Kazan (1927).

Baev worked in the subdepartment of biochemistry of Kazan Medical Institute from 1930 to 1935 and in the A. N. Bakh Institute of Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1935 to 1959; after 1959 he worked in the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His main works have been in the area of molecular biology: cellular respiration and the chemical structure and functions of transfer ribonucleic acids (t-RNA).
