Bai-U

the name of the rainy season in southern Japan which lasts from about the middle of June to the middle of July. The rains during this period are connected with cyclone activity on the polar front. The large quantity and duration of rainfall during the bai-u favor the growing of rice. In the central part of eastern China there is a similar season from May to June which is called the mei-wu.
